An unengaged contact is a contact who has not opened any of the last 8 marketing emails sent to them. GlassHive applies this status through automatic contact sunsetting.
What counts as engagement?
For this status, GlassHive uses recorded email opens. A contact is considered engaged if at least one of their last eight marketing emails was opened.
Clicks, replies, form submissions, and meetings are not used to calculate this status.
What Unengaged does and does not mean
An Unengaged status does not mean the contact is unsubscribed, invalid, or deleted. The contact remains in GlassHive and on their lists.
The status helps you decide whether to include the contact in Campaigns, Journeys, and Marketing Plans. Unengaged contacts are excluded by default, but you can choose to include them.
Bulk one-to-one emails are not affected.
Where to find your unengaged contacts
Open Contacts and choose Unengaged to see every contact that currently has the status.
Your Lists page shows an Unengaged count for each list, next to its bounced, unsubscribed, and active counts, so you can see which lists are most affected before you build a send.
Can a contact become engaged again?
Yes. When GlassHive records an open from the contact, their Unengaged status is cleared automatically.
Are existing contacts included?
Yes. GlassHive evaluates existing contacts using their last eight marketing emails. Contacts with no recorded opens in those messages are marked Unengaged.
Why unengaged contacts matter
Low engagement over repeated sends can be a sign that the recipient is no longer interested. Reducing messages to these contacts can help protect engagement rates and email deliverability.
