Automatic contact sunsetting helps protect your email deliverability by identifying contacts who have stopped opening your marketing emails.
How it works
GlassHive marks a contact as Unengaged when none of the last 8 marketing emails sent to that contact were opened.
The status belongs to the contact, so it follows them across your marketing lists.
Where sunsetting applies
Sunsetting applies when you select lists for:
It does not currently apply to bulk one-to-one emails.
What happens when you select a list
When you pick your lists, GlassHive shows a Recipients summary before you send. It counts everyone on the lists you chose, then separates out the contacts it will not send to: bounced, unsubscribed, and unengaged. What is left is your Eligible Recipients.
Unengaged contacts are excluded by default. To send to them anyway, turn on Include unengaged contacts.
A contact can fall into more than one excluded category, so the individual counts may add up to more than the difference between your total and eligible recipients.
What happens to the contact
Being unengaged does not delete the contact, remove them from a list, or unsubscribe them. It changes how GlassHive handles them in supported marketing sends.
If GlassHive later records an open from the contact, their unengaged status is cleared automatically.
What about existing contacts?
GlassHive also evaluates existing contacts using their last eight marketing emails. Contacts with no recorded opens in those messages are marked Unengaged.
Why this matters
Continuing to send to people who consistently do not open email can reduce engagement and harm sender reputation. Sunsetting gives you a clear warning and safer default while leaving the final sending decision with you.
